Aim: To help International exchange program among primary school students of 3 different countries ( Japan, South Korea and USA)
Site: Shinoda school in Aomori city in Japan.
Supervisor: Mr. Ken Kudo
There were International exchange program in Aomori (24/07/2010〜03/08/2010).
I needed to sleep over in school for during 2 days and a half (60 hours) to take care of Japanese, Korean and American children as I was one of the 100 volunteers staff. We had 2 days of meeting to discuss about the program at the office in Aomori-center for 6 hours and 4 hours for shopping to buy the materials that we needed to use during this program (such as lunch tools, stationeries, snacks, drinks, BBQ materials...etc).
My job was to take care of children to lead them to communicate among foreign people. And also I needed to watch them to save from a danger. For example, when we walk the street in the city I had to watch children that they dont seperate from the line and do not to slip out from our group. We they are going to the beach, I had to swim in the sea with children together as I needed to watch them not to drown. The hardest moment was at mid-night, because most of little children are trying to get out from the room and going outside of school for adventure. Therefore, I had to be awake mostly for whole night to watch them...
Reflection:
This program was very interesting and it gave me a lot of good experiences that how to contact with little children. And also I learnt the importance of the responsibility of adults (We had to be always accurately; to respect the time, rules and manners in front of children).
Through this activity, I felt that I was still immature to be adult. Therefore I learnt what kind of efforts I need to continue for graduating high school to be a grown-up. I could contribute to promote International exchange of youth.
This was a global important activity because I was working with children as a n international exchange program. This was a new challenge and I organised some of games for the children on my own. I was also working and communicating with others, the volunteers and the children, and hope I was fair and principled to everyone.
(Service: Total over 50 hours)
